Since 2018, we have offered the CC Reading Club, dedicated to engaging students in a profound dialogue with literature every Saturday from 2:30 to 6:30 PM. Our aim goes beyond preparing for standardized tests; we seek to help each participant find keys to their own life within the text.
Course Features
Curated Reading List: The reading list consists of 100 classic novels recommended by the education board and SAT examination center, including titles like The Catcher in the Rye, Robinson Crusoe, Jane Eyre, and Brave New World.
In-Depth Guided Reading: Each session begins with Cecilia leading a one-hour discussion centered on a thought-provoking question to stimulate student engagement and dialogue.
Shared Reading Time: In the following two hours, all students participate in a collective reading session, sharing insights and enhancing their comprehension and critical thinking skills.
Professional Tutoring: The final hour features a doctoral student from Columbia University teaching SAT problem-solving techniques and grammar. Additionally, undergraduate students from UBC provide feedback on assignments, ensuring effective learning outcomes.
Now in its sixth year, our reading club boasts graduates who have gone on to attend prestigious institutions such as Stanford and Yale. We welcome more students passionate about literature and learning to join us in exploring the richness and wisdom that books offer.
